Starting Raw Food Diet at 10 Weeks Pregnant

I have been eating a degree of raw foods ranging from 30-100% since about 2001. I always found that the more raw food I would eat the better I would feel. I was about 70% raw when I got pregnant this year with baby # 5.

Right before the pregnancy I was having green smoothies every morning and daily salads with very minimal processed foods, but as soon as I got pregnant and morning sickness took over… it was a totally different story.

I couldn’t stand the sight of anything healthy so ate pretty much a Standard American Diet (SAD Diet) from the time I was 6 weeks pregnant until I hit 10 weeks.

At 10 weeks my nausea finally let up enough to allow me to actually make wise food choices again!

I am now starting to transition back to a high raw diet modified only by the fact that I make homemade whole grain flax bread in addition to all the raw foods I eat. I am going to document how this pregnancy goes with this way of eating.

I started eating this way on June 1st 2009 right when I was about 10 weeks along. I am now 3 days in and feel fantastic. I think having the flax bread helps slow the detoxing a bit so it wont be too overwhelming to my body or my growing baby.

On June 1st I started at 140.2 lbs. I don’t expect to lose weight while pregnant, but would like to see how quickly I drop weight right after the baby is born. I would guess that my pre-pregnancy weight is about 133 lbs.

I will be posting daily about my journey on the Raw Food Diet while pregnant.
